Good News Bad News

Last Thursday we drove to Los Angeles to visit my family. On the way there, we stopped by Harris Ranch for lunch, which is about half way to LA. Once we got back into the car, Jacob said to Joey "Joey, I have good news and bad news".

Joey: What is the good news?

Jacob: The good news is we are going to cousin's house.

Joey: What is the bad news?

Jacob: The bad news is it's going to take four more hours.

Joe and I were sitting in the front seat laughing our heads off.

Direction

Last week, I was on my way to pickup Jacob from school, with Joey in the back seat. It was already dark and I guess I wasn't paying attention.

Joey: Mommy, why did you go so far down the street?

Mom: Oh, oops, I past the street that we need to turn.

Joey: Mommy, you went to far.

Mom: Okay, thanks Joey.

The next day, we were picking up Jacob again. As we were driving down the same street.

Joey: Mommy, I'll tell you where to turn so you won't go too far.

Mom: Thanks :)

On the third day, we were driving there again.

Mom: Joey, aren't you going to tell mom where to turn?

Joey: Mom, I am tired of telling you already.

I am glad that they inherited Joe's sense of direction and not mine.

Joey: Mom, mom, I killed a bug in the play room.

Mom: Really?

Joey: Yes, and I took a paper towel and clean it up. I did it all by myself without an adult.

Mom: That's very good Joey.

Jacob: What kind of bug was it Joey? Was it a spider?

Joey: No.

Jacob: Was it black?

Joey: Yes, it was black.

Jacob: Spiders are black. Tarantulas are black. Was it a Tarantula?

Joey: Yes, it was a Tarantula.

Mom: :)

Trick or Treat

Last night Joe took the kids out to trick or treat while I stayed home to pass out candy. After about an hour, the kids came back.

Joe asked them if they wanted to go out again, and they both said no.

Mom: Jacob, did you have fun?

Jacob: No.

Mom: Really? I thought you like candy.

Jacob: I like the candy, but it's too much work.

Wow, he is truly my son, we even think alike.

Adulthood

I was driving Jacob and Joey home from school yesterday and here's the conversation we had:

Joey: Mom, when I am an adult, will you give me some money?

Jacob: Joey, when you are an adult, you will make your own money?

Joey: What do you mean?

Jacob: You go to work and they give you money.

Joey: What do you mean Jacob?

Jacob: You go to work and do something, and they give you money.

Jacob: Mom, what do you do at work?

Mom: I go to a lot of meetings and tell other people what to do. I used to write computer programs and tell the computer what to do...

At this point, they've lost interest.

Bottomless Pit

We went out to Italian for dinner tonight. Jacob had the children's spaghetti, which he manage to clean the plate before our meal arrived. Two pieces of bread, a shrimp and some pasta off of my plate. When we got home, he wanted some snacks. So he went and found some cookies. Then he asked for yogurt and some fruit. Then he had some sushi. Okay, you think he was full after all this food. Nope, he went and got some pastries. Is he done yet? Nope. As I am typing this, both kids are hanging over a bowl of corn chips, chomping away.

I realize that this happens to boys, but just didn't think it start when they are six years old.

Pizza

A few weeks ago, Jacob came home from school with his lunch untouched.

Jacob: Mom, I didn't eat the lunch you packed today. I tried the cheese pizza in school instead.

Mom: Wow, did you like it?

Jacob: Yeah.

This is the first time that Jacob had real pizza. I was so happy, I didn't even get upset that he didn't eat the lunch that I packed.

Last night we went to a party that served only pizza. I was about to get Jacob some cheese pizza and then he saw the ham and pineapple pizza and wanted that instead. Three slices later, he told me he was finally full.

I guess he really likes pizza, this is going to make my life so much easier. One less food to pack when we go to parties when they only serve pizza. Now I am just waiting for Joey to get over his allergies.

Got to Get Get

Joey: Got to get get.

Mom: What was that Joey?

Joey: Got to get get.

Mom: What?

Joey: Mom, that's a song.

Mom: Oh, Black Eye Peas. Very good Joey, I am glad you have good taste in music.

Defiance

This is the conversation that took place between Joey and Joe.

Dad: Okay boys, it's time to clean up. Joey, you put away all your toy cars.

Joey: No, I am still playing with them.

Dad: But we are going to the park, if you want to go to the park with us, then you need to clean up.

Joey: No, I won't.

Dad: Yes, Joey please clean up.

Joey: No, you are not the boss of me.

Dad: Yes, I am Joey.

Joey: No you are NOT!

Dad: Okay, last chance Joey, if you don't clean up, then you can't go to the park.

Joey: No, I won't.

Joe and Jacob left for the park and Joey had to stay home.

Two hours later, Joey messed up the chess game between Jacob and Joe, Jacob got really upset.

Dad: Joey, you don't mess someones game while they are playing.

Joey: Yes I can.

Dad: Joey, you can't, it's not very nice. You need to apologize to Jacob.

Joey: I am sorry Jacob and then under his breath, you are not the boss of me.

Words of Wisdom from a Three Year Old

Here's the conversations we had as I was driving Joey to school in the morning.

Joey: Mommy, I have a lot of fun when I am playing.

Mom: Oh good, I am glad.

Joey: Jacob has a little bit of fun because he is older.

Mom: Why?

Joey: Because the older you get the less fun you have.

Mom: That is very true Joey.

Happy Feet Addition

There's this new foot message place that I discovered called Happy Feet. It's an one hour feet and deep tissue message that's open from 10:00 a.m. to 10 p.m., 7 days a week. So what's so great about this place? It's $20 per message and you tip $5. I don't know how they can do this so cheap but it's great for me. And they are open until 10 at night, so that means I still have time to go after I put the kids in bed.

I will take mom there when she comes for a visit. By the way, they are all Chinese and barely speaks any English.

This Time It's the YMCA

On last Wednesday, I received this call from Jacob's after school care, YMCA. The director told me that I had to go pick Jacob up right away. No, he wasn't sick, but he was in trouble. Apparently, he and his friend pushed another girl on the ground and put dirt all over her face and hair. Both boys were being sent home. And again, on Friday, he got intro trouble again at the Y. We couldn't get the details out of him.

So my question is, how did I end up with a child like Jacob? I was so quiet and shy. Always afraid to get into trouble in school. This behavior certainly didn't come from me. He must have taken after his uncle Mike.

Black Card

Jacob's Kindergarten teacher went on maternity and they have a substitute teacher. I guess the kids are not listening to the sub (I can't believe this is starting in Kindergarten). Anyway, the sub sent an email to all the parents telling us that she has implemented a new method. Each morning, she gives each kid a green card. If they misbehave, she takes away the green, and replace with yellow, then red. The last card is black, where she would send the kid next door to the other Kindergarten class.

Of course, on the same day I received the email, Jacob gets the red card. So I told Jacob, if you get a red card in school, then you may not play with your DS. If you get a red card two days in a row, then you lose DS and TV, and 3 days then you lose DS, TV, and computer. Jacob's response? Okay, If I get a black card, then I would lose my cars too. Hmm, I am not sure if this is working. This is supposed to be a deterrent.

Jacob's Latest Obession

So it started with the latest obsession with another car race movie, Speed Racer. Jacob wanted to watch it everyday, and if he is not watching, then he is playing with his speed racer cars. Both Jacob and Joey know all the characters from the movie.

Oh, this is really cute. Remember the Speed Racer song? Go speed racer, go speed racer, go. Well, Joey changes the word to the song. He sings, don't go snake oiler, don't go snake oiler, don't go.

Anyways, got side tracked. Joe taught Jacob how to use google to look up speed racer related pictures and coloring pages. Then he discovered stock car racing. So new obsession. This morning, he was on the computer with a note book. He found the Nascar website and he was writing down all the names of the race car drivers in his note book. So another side note, Jacob's hand writing for homework is pretty sloppy. But in the note book, all the names were neatly printed.

Last night around 10:00 p.m., I heard Jacob got up and went to the bathroom. He was in there for a long time, so I ask Joe to go and check in on him. Next thing I hear, Jacob was crying and screaming. I waited for a few minutes to see if he would stop crying. When he was still crying, I went into the bathroom.

Jacob was so tired that he forgot to lift the lid to the toilet and had pooped all over himself, his pants and the floor. I was walking in, took a look at what was going on and turned around and walked right out. Joe was working on this, he doesn't need my help.

Jacob: Mommy, can we go to Nicole's house for Christmas?

Mom: No Jacob, it's a long drive.

Jacob: Can we go, but this time, can we go on an airplane?

Mom: No, I don't think so.

Jacob: But mom, then how will I get my Christmas gifts?

A Quarter

We carpool with a neighbor to take Jacob to school. The other boy's name is Devin. I picked the kids up last night after school. This is the conservation that took place as I was driving them home.

Jacob: I am five years old.

Devin: I am five years old too.

Joey: I am three years old.

Jacob: Actually I am five and a quarter.

Devin: I am five and a penny.

Now I Understand - Related to Previous Post

Joey started a new preschool last week. He has been having a hard time adjusting to school. Partly because he doesn't know how to make friends. He pretty much only plays with Jacob or if Jacob is around with other kids, he would just follow Jacob. So I told Jacob we need to help Joey learn how to make friends. So here's the conversation between Jacob and Joey that took place.

Jacob: Joey, it's easy to make Friends. You just act crazy to make people laugh, then they will like you.

Joey: No, I don't want to do that.

Jacob: "Joey, just do this." Jacob jumps up and down, shake and hits his head. "See, it's easy. Just make people laugh".

Joey: "I don't like people!"

My poor Joey. But it does explain why Jacob likes to act silly.

Jacob the Clown

Today is Jacob's last soccer game for the season. He brought his cleats to me this morning with some colored shoe laces. He wanted to change the black laces on his cleats to these colorful ones. He told me, this is our last game, I want to surprise my friends with these fun laces so they wouldn't be so sad. Then he proceeds to get dressed in his soccer uniform. I noticed he put his shirt on backwards. Mommy, remember I told you I want to make everyone happy today. He finished his "outfit" with winter gloves.
